From: DHHS Class of 2012 On Behalf Of Druid Hills High School PTA, Thursday, March 29, 2012: Dear Parents and Guardians, My name is Elshadai Desta, a senior at Druid Hills and I am participating in a community service project called the Shoebox Project. The purpose of the project is to put toiletry items in a decorated shoebox and donate them to homeless women and their children so that they can receive a little box of happiness for mother's day. It would greatly be appreciated if I could have help from the school and PTSA.
If anyone is able to donate any shoeboxes, unused toiletry items, or both please bring them to the school by Tuesday May 1, 2012 so that I can pick them up and pack them to deliver to the United Way of Atlanta. If you have any questions please feel free to email at firstname.lastname@example.org

Saturday, March 24, 2012 , George Eckard sent a message : We saw a dog running loose on Desmond Drive near Superior Saturday afternoon at about 3:30. We followed it and tried to catch it through the neighborhood all the way into the Clyde Shepard Nature Preserve. It was a reddish brown and approximately 75 lbs. with a 6 inch bobbed tail. It may be a Chesapeake or a Rhodesian ridgeback.

From Larry Foster, PDK Watch March 24, 2012: Dear Concerned Citizens, This is a follow-up message to yesterday's PDK ACTION ALERT that dealt with a proposed land-use change for 14.98 acres of buyout land adjacent to PDK Airport. That land-use case--which is listed on the Agenda for the March 27 meeting of the Board of Commissioners--will be DEFERRED to a later meeting, I have been assured. That deferral will allow the proposed land-use change and its ramifications to be more fully and carefully investigated and considered. I want to thank the Commissioners very much for supporting the deferral of this case. And I also want to thank those of you who may have written your Commissioners.

From: Sharon VerBeek <email@example.com> of Tucker via the North Druid Valley Homeowners Association: I attended a neighborhood meeting hosted by DeKalb county on March 12th. This was one of 3 community meetings to be held to obtain comments and input regarding a Stream Cleanup Project which will involve South Fork Peachtree, Snapfinger and South river. Basically Dekalb County was sued by the US EPA and GA DNR for dumping sewage in waterways. As part of the settlement, they have to spend $660,000 on a one-time trash clean up of three creeks (including tributaries) that were involved in the dumping (South Fork Peachtree Creek is one of the three. In order to determine the areas most in need of clean up, they are asking for citizen input via a survey distributed through a series of public meetings as well as through direct contact with neighborhood associations.

From Emory: Atlanta Gas Light is undertaking a pipeline replacement project through August---a non-Emory project that will produce one-lane closures in the Emory area including Clifton, Houston Mill and North Decatur roads. Replacement work will occur during daytime and evening hours and, where possible, AGL will install the pipe outside of the roadway along the public right-of-way. Any work requiring a lane closure will follow DeKalb County traffic control guidelines with signage, cones and flaggers to assist traffic flow. AGL is coordinating with the Emory to minimize inconveniences to commuters and to avoid work during commencement activities.
