The county has indicated that construction of Phase 2 could begin as early as February. Phase 1 connected Medlock Park to Mason Mill Park and terminated at the stone bridge over Burnt Fork Creek in the middle of Mason Mill. Phase 2 will extend the trail from the stone bridge, over the CSX railroad tracks, and terminate at McConnell Drive. The site plans were published here in the fall, and we also published comments on the project by commissioner Jeff Rader. An overview of Phase 1 can be found here. Currently construction for the project is out for bid under the county's general contract with the PATH Foundation. CSX has required that after construction of the bridge over their railroad tracks, a cyclone fence will be erected to prevent people from walking on the tracks. Many small trees and some large trees will be cut. The county's planning department is requiring the project to follow the county tree ordinance and replace lost trees, according to local resident and County Greenspace Environment manager Dave Butler, who will ensure construction follows trail guidelines. Phase 3, if implemented as proposed, would connect the trail from the site where the Phase 2 bridge lands on the McConnell Drive side to Clairmont Road near Emory's Clairmont Campus.
