From the Civic Association Network: "CAN is sponsoring a family friendly non-competitive run/walk/skate/bike event on October 9th, 2010. The ideas behind this event are first to help build a sense of our large community in central DeKalb. Secondly, to show participants who don’t live here that this is a very attractive and active community in which to live. Last but not least to support the event’s very worthy cause.
The working name of this event is ‘Foil The Oil’, and all proceeds above the costs of organizing the event will be given to the Audubon Activity Center on the Gulf Coast to help with cleaning up the wildlife impacted by the oil blow out in the Gulf of Mexico.
We will gather in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church parking lot at 9AM, and have the following events and start times:
9:15-Start of 13+ mile bike ride through several area neighborhoods with a bail out at the mid-point for those who need a short cut. (There will be a vehicle following the riders to help with break downs-personal or mechanicalJ).
9:20-Start of 10K run/skate event
9:25-Start of 5K run/walk event in Sagamore Hills
9:30-Start of 3K family run/walk event in Sagamore Hills
We will have fruit snacks and drinks at the start and finish. We are looking into providing T-Shirts depending on how the funding and sponsorships shape up.
There may be some minor adjustments as the details are finalized. All events begin and end at the Church. Event should be over by 11:30 and clean-up by noon. (In future years we may move our base of operations to other neighborhoods).
We will have on site medical support, event insurance, and the DeKalb Police Bike patrol is onboard.
There will be a modest entry fee for participants. This is to cover costs of insurance and T-Shirts and support for our cause.
This event will be publicized via the CAN group that reaches thousands of homes, and elsewhere. We hope to have several hundred participants! Please put his on your calendars.
Entry forms and flyers will also be emailed later this summer. ...
