The Funny Farm will be bringing a variety of heirloom produce including dandelion greens, costata romanesco italian and ronde de nice french heirloom zucchinis, acorn and delicata squashes, Chinese red long beans. They will also have some fantastic Triple Crown blackberries, big beef and tomato berry tomatoes, crisp, cool cucumbers, fresh herbs and flowers. Robin made new batches of blueberry and habanero pepper jellies too.
Bobby Britt, Mealor Family Farms, Erik Spelvins and Peace and Harmony Farms will have a variety of summer vegetables too.
Here is a recipe in which you can use your purchases
Grilled Summer Squash-Asian Style
Serves 8
1 lb. Yellow squash, sliced in 3/4-inch slices
1 lb. Zucchini, cut in half length-wise and if large, cut in half cross-wise
6 tbl. Rice wine vinegar
1 tbl. Sake
1 tbl. Soy Sauce (tamari)
1 tbl. Mirin
1/2 Tbl. White miso
3/4 Cup Vegetable oil
2 tbl. Vegetable oil for grill
6 tbl. Dark sesame oil
2 ea. Scallions, sliced thinly
1 1/2 tbl. Pickled ginger, finely minced
Salt to taste
Pre-heat grill.
Whisk together vinegar, sake, soy, mirin and miso in a stainless steel bowl.
Add oil, whisking continuously. Add pickled ginger and scallions. Toss vegetables with vinaigrette.
After grill is hot, clean with grill brush. Moisten a clean paper towel with 2 tablespoons of oil and wipe grill just prior to putting vegetables down. Make sure you wipe toward yourself. Wiping grill front to back may cause burns.
Quickly place vegetables on grill in one layer. Cook on one side for approximately 2 minutes or until darkly marked by grill. Turn over cook for another 1-3 minutes or until just barely softened. Vegetable will continue to cook after removed from grill.
Check for seasoning. Add salt if needed.
