“The Professor’s Office Hours” Free-Ticket Lottery and Reserved-Seat On-Sale Dates
Tickets for this specific event are only available to current Emory faculty, staff, and students.
1,500 free general-admission bleacher tickets are available through a random drawing. Emory faculty/staff/students can sign up
now at
http://dalailama.emory.edu/lottery. Hurry, the
lottery registration closes on Monday, September 6 and the winners will be posted the next day. More than 1,000 faculty, staff, and students have already registered for the lottery. Reserved floor-seat tickets will be available for purchase (again, only Emory faculty, staff, and students are eligible for this one event) on
September 8 at 10:00 a.m. through
http://dalailama.emory.edu. There is a limit of two purchased tickets per person, and both attendees must have a current faculty/staff/student ID. If you win a ticket in the lottery or purchase a reserved-seat ticket, you
may give it away to another faculty/staff/student member, but that person will only be admitted if he/she has a current, valid Emory ID.
Note: Emory will have normal class and work hours on the day of this event. To attend, you must arrive at WoodPEC no later than 9:00 a.m. and the event will conclude at noon. Please be sure that your work/class schedule allows for your attendance before purchasing a ticket.
“What would you ask the Dalai Lama”
What would you ask the Dalai Lama if you had the chance? For one day only,
Thursday, September 16, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. bring your best question to Dobbs University Center (Room 355). We'll be videotaping Emory faculty, staff, and students asking questions and selecting several for use during the "Professor's Office Hours" event. You can ask any question on any subject, and we welcome you to “come as you are” for the videotaping. We’re looking for a wide variety of questions (politics, religion, current events, personal questions, etc.). If your question is selected to be played during the event on October 19, you will receive a free reserved floor seat. See
http://dalailama.emory.edu/ask for more information.
Student Discount Tickets for Compassion Meditation Conference
There is a special $25-off discount for students for the Monday (10/18) Compassion Meditation Conference. The discount applies to the general-admission bleacher seats. No code is required, you’ll see “Student” as a ticketing option when purchasing for this event.
Continuing Education Credit Availability
We are pleased to announce continuing education (CE) credits are available for professionals in the fields of Psychology, Social Work and Theology attending the Compassion Meditation Conference. General CE credits are also available. Medical CEs are pending approval. See
http://dalailama.emory.edu/2010/compassion.html#ceu for details.
Volunteer Information
Volunteers are key to the success of these events. In 2007, over 300 volunteers assisted with the events on campus and around Atlanta. The Office of University Events seeks volunteers from the Emory community for a wide range of assignments. Volunteers who complete the minimum full five-hour shift will receive the exclusive “The Visit 2010” volunteer t-shirt. Review the information packet available at
http://dalailama.emory.edu/2010/volunteer.html for important details and deadlines.
General Campus Notes
We expect higher than normal traffic congestion on and around campus October 17-19 for these events. In order to mitigate the traffic impact on campus, the Monday (10/18) events and the Tuesday (10/19) afternoon event attendees will be directed to park at off-site locations where shuttles will bring them to campus. This will greatly reduce the number of vehicles on campus. Those attending the Professor’s Office Hours on Tuesday morning (10/19) are asked to park in their normal assigned spaces and walk or use alternative transportation to get to WoodPEC for the event.
Sponsorship Opportunities
If you wish to include the Emory-Tibet Partnership and Emory-Tibet Science Initiative in your philanthropic priorities, individual sponsorship packages are still available. Benefits include premium tickets to sold-out events, exclusive opportunities, and more. See
http://dalailama.emory.edu/support/ for details.
A Note about Ticket Pricing
The event ticket prices are set at a level to cover the costs of the event and to support the free and reduced-price tickets for the “Professor’s Office Hours” event. His Holiness the Dalai Lama does not accept a speaking fee, and asks that ticket prices be set at a level to cover the costs of the events so that the host does not bear any financial burden for his visit. Any funds raised through ticket sales and sponsorship packages, above and beyond the costs to produce the event, will go directly to the Emory-Tibet Partnership and the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative (through Emory College of Arts and Sciences) to further the work that the Dalai Lama is here to support.
