The DeKalb History Center is excited to offer our third annual Talking Walls program which will introduce teachers to DeKalb's rich history through visits to historic sites, examination of primary documents from our Archives and lectures by prominent local historians.

Sessions will include:

A visit to the Flat Rock Archives, a museum dedicated to the preservation of the history of Flat Rock and the African-American slaves and descendants who have maintained this community for 150 years.

A seminar on the history of DeKalb County by local historian and author of multiple books on DeKalb, Vivian Price.

An introduction to the DeKalb History Center Archives by our archivist Jill Sweetapple.

A tour of the Shermantown community of Stone Mountain with local historians and community members. Shermantown is what remains of a settlement of freed slaves that formed after the Civil War and named for General Sherman.
This workshop is designed for teachers of all grades and disciplines. Upon completion, participants are awarded three Professional Learning Units (PLUs).
