Creating Walkable Communities for All
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 • 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Loudermilk Center for the Regional Community
40 Courtland Street • Atlanta, Georgia 30303

Join us for "Creating Walkable Communities for All," a workshop on ways to create pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods and corridors, with a special emphasis on the preferences and needs of older adults.

Carrie Hite, Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Kirkland, Washington, will be the keynote speaker. Kirkland has won national awards for its work in creating safe environments for older pedestrians.

Too many communities in the Atlanta region are not walkable for
people of any age, but for older adults it can be downright
dangerous. The lack of sidewalks, safe crossings, signals, shade and resting places leave seniors with very few options. At a time when older adults are living longer, expressing a strong preference to remain in their communities and live active and healthy lives, safe and attractive places to walk have never been more important.

The event is free but space is limited.

Register by Wednesday, July 9 to reserve your space.
