From state rep. Mary Margaret Oliver: TPLOST UPDATE--TOWN HALL MEETING MONDAY JULY 30 TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS-OLD DECATUR COURTHOUSE--5 PM TO 7 PM. I am voting for the TSPLOST next Tuesday, July 31, and I hope you will do so also. The TSPLOST ten county regional vote to build transportation infrastructure represents progress, and I have watched a lack of progress at the state Capitol for many years, particularly for public transit funding. If you have final questions and want answers about the TSLOST, please attend a town hall meeting Monday evening, 5 pm to 7 pm, Old Decatur Courthouse.
If the TSPLOST vote is successful, DeKalb County benefits as much or more than any of the other nine counties in our region. Expanding MARTA with rail transit from Brookhaven to Emory University provides 700 million dollars for new public transit and, the new one penny tax will provide general support of 500 million dollars for MARTA. This will be the first time the state of Georgia has ever funded MARTA from general revenues. Outside DeKalb County but close to us, investment of 600 million in the Beltline will provide valuable new green space and intown transit.
Our transportation needs are great, and the TSPLOST will not solve all problems and is not perfect. Georgia ranks 49th of 50 states in per capita spending for transportation. The process of deciding what new projects would be built with six billion dollars of new TSPLOST money was open and transparent, and our Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd served on the committee of six who developed the final list of projects. I support TSPLOST and if any of you have questions please contact me.
There are no contested Statewide judicial elections on the July 31 ballot but there are important local races in DeKalb and Fulton Counties. I will vote for Judge Dax Lopez for DeKalb State Court and I urge Fulton County voter to support Judge Todd Markle for Fulton State Court. If you have an interest in either of these races and gentlemen and want more information, please call me.
PLEASE VOTE! THANK YOU!
