In case you were startled by the siren Wednesday afternoon, here's an explanation from the City of Decatur via Decatur - Avondale Estates Patch: "The City will conduct a test of the system at 5:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. During the test, the sirens will sound for approximately one minute. If the weather is inclement on the first Wednesday of the month, the test will be postponed until the following day, the first Thursday of the month."
