From local resident Jim Smith...
I don't know if you ever have need to exit the n'hood via N. Superior in the am, but the light at N. Decatur is on an extremely long cycle for N. Superior, on the order of 3 minutes. The same is true at Superior and Scott Blvd. As a result, some folks are risking their lives by turning right on the red at both lights.
If folks are tired of the extremely long times, we should organize a mass call-in to Roads & Drainage to get the timing fixed before somebody gets hurt in a wreck. 311 if it hasn't been disabled yet, allows a caller to leave a work order. The last time I tried calling R&D direct, it rolled over to 311...
[Ed. note: Others report a different experience of those lights. The CHCA board has submitted an inquiry to confirm the timing is correct at the intersections. The county's director of transportation at a traffic control meeting last year noted that they had changed the synchronization of lights on the major arterial streets to expedite commuter traffic. He acknowledged, however, that one consequence was longer lights for traffic from residential streets. The larger question arises whether the major and minor thoroughfares should be primarily addressing the needs of commuters; and neighborhood streets, primarily those of residents. In one view, the better job the thoroughfares do, the less that commuters will feel they need to use neighborhood streets.]
