Notes from annual CHCA meeting

About 40 people attended the annual CHCA meeting Thursday, May 14, at the North Decatur Presbyterian Church. Guests included commissioner Kathie Gannon, County Greenspace director and Nature Preserve representative Dave Butler, and Parks & Rec projects manager John Anderson. After presenting various reports, the current board was re-elected. Reports dealt with the following topics:

  1. Review of Hampton Inn site proposal next to the existing Holiday Inn Express on N Decatur: see February posting; Main issues are the height variance and long term ramifications, esp. in relation to the CCP Urban Guidelines.
  2. Transportation, Traffic Calming, and Sidewalks review: two new speed tables have been installed on Desmond. Hoping county will install sidewalks on N Superior and Willivee based on promised Emory funding.
  3. CHCA/MANA Garden Club: just organizing; targeting FEMA sites. All gardeners are welcome to join. See http://groups.google.com/group/northdecaturgardenclub
  4. Commissioner Gannon reported on green initiatives.
  5. Petition on Interactive Community Policing circulated by Vanessa Platt from Dresden East Civic Association.
  6. Announcements of other local web services: CommunityRadar.com and 30033talk.com
  7. Treasurers Report: major expenses included entry signs; annual expenses include website, newsletter
  8. Membership Report: call for listserv members (over 400) to join membership  (less than 50)
