Update on Armed robbery on Ava Pl

Update Feb. 2, 2010 from a resident : Dekalb Police report that "the robber(s) have been caught robbing a bank with our neighbor's car as the getaway car.  Suspects will be tried in Federal Court since it was a bank robbery."

From the MANA Neighborhood Watch: "Details are still emerging, but here is what I know so far..."A neighbor on Ava Pl just called to tell me that a well dressed black man walked up her driveway last night as she was pulling in,  put a gun in her face and demanded her car keys which she gave him.   The police came and took a report.  All I  know at this point.."  I have contacted the Dekalb PD for more details.  This is very rare for our neighborhood, but please be aware of your surroundings and report anything that looks suspicious to 911 with details. Another mailbox theft

From a CHCA resident: "I just wanted to alert our neighbors in the Clairmont Heights vicinity that we had the contents of our mailbox stolen sometime beteen the evening of Sunday, Jan 24 and the morning of Monday, Jan 25. We have alerted the postmaster, our bank, and our credit card company about this theft -- but we wanted to pass along this info in case anyone else has experienced this situation too."

From Laurel Ridge neighborhood, dated Monday, January 4, 2010, 1:44 PM : "We just happened to put a bill in the mailbox last night/this morning and it was already stolen. They have already tried to draw on our accounts. This was a fluke for us since receiving prior alerts on in."

Fatal hit-and-run on N Decatur

[Update 11/17: A comment in the DecaturMetro blog says the location may in fact have been Lantern Park Lane and North Decatur near 285.] "DeKalb police looking for fatal hit-and-run driver. By Megan Matteucci. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009: "DeKalb County police are searching for a white car that was involved in a deadly hit and run Tuesday night. Margaret Henderson, 58, was walking east on North Decatur Road around 7 p.m., when she was struck by the car, DeKalb police spokesman Jason Gagnon said. The eastbound car hit Henderson, then turned around and drove west back down North Decatur, Gagnon said. The incident occurred near Landover Drive, in unincorporated DeKalb near Decatur." Read more

Protect Yourself from Mailbox Fraud

From state rep. Stephanie Stuckey Benfield: A Message from Avondale Police Chief Gary Broden ... Unfortunately, we live in time when we should consider no longer following practices of the past that were once safe and not a problem to those who used them. One practice that people should think carefully about is sending payments or other monies through the mail, especially leaving the postal item in their private/residential mailbox with the flag up indicating out-going mail is needed to be picked up.
