We've seen pileateds in the neighborhood and in Mason Mill Park but this is the first time it showed up in our yard when we had a camera handy. You can click on the video to see two more on the Flickr site. Videos by Tim Bryson and Catherine Larson.

On Saturday February 6th, neighborhood residents Eduardo Andrade, David Newton, John Drann, John Maynard and 8 members of Emory’s Sigma Nu fraternity (pictured below) took part in cleaning-up the CHCA neighborhood entry on North Superior. The CHCA Board coordinated with residents and the fraternity members in responding to an elderly neighbor’s request with help in cleaning his portion of the property abutting the neighborhood entry.
From CHCA board member Suzan Rowe: Did you know that many commonly-used landscape plants are invasive species? An exotic plant is one that is planted outside its natural habitat. While many of these plants are not a problem, some become invasive due to lack of the natural enemies that would otherwise keep them in check. These plants reproduce quickly, displace many of the other species in their domain, and are difficult to eradicate.
As seen on June 6, 2009. Perhaps same two young hawks photographed in earlier posts. They were sitting on a tree, within a few yards of the original nest near the South Peachtree Creek Trail just beyond the steel bridge. One is eating and the other seems to be preening. To see video here, you need to have a flash player installed, e.g., the Adobe Flash Player. Or, you can view it on Flickr.com.
