The Oakhurst Community Garden Project, the City of Decatur, and the DeKalb County Public Library are pleased to announce their collaboration on offering you an exciting FREE series of classes in 2012. Topics include gardening for food and for the unpredictable environment, how to make your home more efficient, composting, and using what you have to lead a healthy life. Look for seminars and workshops that speak to information that is timely and current as well as leaving with a full list of resources that can be found at your local library and online. Events take place at the Decatur Library, 215 Sycamore Street Decatur, Georgia 30030. The family friendly compost workshop takes place at the Oakhurst Community Garden Project, 435 Oakview Road, Decatur, GA 30030. For our gardeners: Announcing our 2011 Fall Lunch and Wildflower Series starting Wednesday, September 7. In addition, our Plant Sales start the same day, so come to the garden and enjoy. We are doing something new this fall as some of our talks will be held on Friday. Our first talk will be "The Fabulous World of Ferns" by Eleanor Craig on Wednesday, September 7. If it rains, the talk will be held at 11:30 instead of 12:00. Eleanor has a nursery in Alabama - Fern Ridge Farms. Following Eleanor will be Dave Funderburk on Friday, September 16, with "Native Trees, Shrubs, and Wildflowers in Fall". In addition, we will have Plant Sales on both Wednesdays and Fridays.
From Decatur Garden Tour via Clairemont/Great Lakes Neighborhood Association: Springtime in Decatur. This year the Decatur Garden Tour returns to the spring and adds a new dimension for participants with the theme “Outdoor Spaces. Entertaining Places.” Some of the gardeners will open part of their homes to demonstrate the flow between indoor living areas and patios, decks, and the garden for relaxation and entertaining.
