From DeKalb County Schools: This special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) is an opportunity for the voters in DeKalb County to continue the one-cent sales tax for school improvements that was approved by voters in 2007. This sales tax extension is limited to sixty months.
If the continuation of the one cent tax is approved on November 8, 2011, school improvements will be funded by everyone who buys goods in the county, regardless of where they live.
From commissioner Jeff Rader: On Tuesday, November 8th, voters will have the opportunity to vote to renew the Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST). The educational special purpose local option sales tax (E-SPLOST) is to continue a 1 per cent sales tax for educational purposes for the DeKalb, Atlanta and Decatur school systems. This 1 per cent tax has been collected since 1997 and must be voted on every five years to continue. In addition to the E-SPLOST, each municipality in DeKalb is conducting elections to elect city officials, approve Sunday liquor sales, and to approve special referendums. Please come out and cast your vote. Early voting for all DeKalb County voters has begun for the municipal and countywide special elections that will be conducted on November 8th. The voting will continue weekdays through Friday, November 4 from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM. The location is the Voter Registration office at 4380 Memorial Drive. There will be no voting on Monday, November 7. For more details on the E-SPLOST, go to the following websites:
From Amy Power via DHHS and local residents, info on SPLOST vote November 8 and its impact on local schools and an update on a proposal to lease Medlock School to the International Community School, a charter school: "Thank you to Amy Power for preparing the following information about the important SPLOST vote on November 8. From the Druid Hills High School PTA: The DeKalb County School System is re-establishing a strategic planning process and invites you to participate! We want to hear from you regarding what you want your public schools to provide for students, what the schools are doing well, and what challenges the schools and students face. The input that you provide on this survey will be used to revise the district’s strategic plan for approval by the Board of Education in February 2012. All survey responses are anonymous. Thank you for lending your voice to public education in DeKalb County School System! The survey is being administered by the Georgia School Boards Association. The survey will be live through midnight on September 30, 2011. You can access the survey at the link: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22CSGKB2U3D
