The Board of Commissioners formally approved a funding plan for money from a federal program, including $6 million worth of projects serving District Two.

Here are some topics of interest from recent Board of Commissioner meetings:Bond Ruling, Health Benefits, Housing Program, Land Use Proposal. Bond Ruling The law's the law, whether it's convenient or not. That was the message from the Georgia Supreme Court in a recent ruling that directly affects taxpayers in DeKalb County. Last year, the county administration, under former CEO Vernon Jones, decided that specific legislation passed by the Georgia Assembly was not fair, therefore the county did not need to abide by it.

From commissioner Jeff Rader, Oct 31, 2009: On October 30, the Georgia Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal by the owners of PURE nightclub of the recent decision in DeKalb Superior Court. The Supreme Court decision means that the location can no longer operate as a nightclub. Legislation approved last year that I sponsored prohibits nightclubs in the zoning district where PURE was located, and requires that the County Commission approve a Special Land Use Permit for any new business that serves alcohol and is open after 12:30 am.
