Improvements Coming to Clairmont Heights Entrance Intersection

CHCA Board members have engaged for several years with DeKalb County and City of Decatur elected officials to improve safety at the intersection of North Decatur Road and North Superior Avenue.

City of Decatur recently announced a series of public workshops and meetings to elicit suggestions and comments to guide their plan for our entrance intersection, named "Street Smarts: The North Decatur Initiative." The map below indicates the extent of North Decatur Road covered by this plan (red section), the intersection (yellow circle), and the lower portion of the Clairmont Heights neighborhood (red boundary).

The kick-off meeting for their initiative occurs in early December of 2022:

PUBLIC WORKSHOP #1
December 7, 6-8 PM
North Decatur Presbyterian Church
611 Medlock Road
Staff will discuss the corridor as it exists today, with a focus on safety and livability issues, and provide an opportunity for community members to share ideas and aspirations.

Additional Public Workshops will allow neighbors to see proposed solutions or scenarios that address the issues, ask questions of the design and planning team, and collect additional resident feedback. City of Decatur has not yet announced dates and locations for the follow-up meetings.

Would you like to help coordinate neighborhood input into this process? The CHCA board is always eager to work productively and encourages residents to join (or lead!) a committee dedicated to issues you are passionate about. Let us know you are interested:
